Photo Manipulation and Ethics

The main points of the story is how in some Middle East countries, manipulating some pictures isn't right. If the Reuters found out the photographer edited his or her photo it would be removed. I personally think photo editing should be acceptable in some cases, like some effects to editing make the picture stand out or it gets the main idea of the picture to stand out against the rest of the photo. The only time photo editing should be allowed is when it's a true event and then editing the picture it's nothing that happened.

National Geographic Warm-up

Out of all 45 pictures this one is my absolute favorite because it's amazing how close the shark and divers are. Also, because there are so many fish around that the shark could easily bite one of the divers, but it seems as if the shark is calm. Another reason is because I like how the shark is just starring at the divers.

Touching People...

I think this project is very interesting, how you take pictures with random people you don't even know or have anything in common with. If someone came and asked me to take a picture with a strange person off the street, I would be uncertain at first, but I think I would end up doing it because it seems he matches people with other who have NOTHING in common.
If I had to take a picture similar to the ones Richard Renadli took I would probably take a photo of a celebrity and a homeless person because their life-styles are different.
I think the pictures were good they were funny seeing two different people in one picture is unique.

40 of the Most Beautiful Photos...

Photo taken by: Claud Detloff

I chose this picture because I like how the little boy, Whitley Bernard, in the picture is reaching out to his father who is a soldier. I'm a daddy's girl so I can relate to the connection between the two, and also I like how the camera is angled.
The way the photographer took the picture give it a lot of detail. I think this picture made it to the top 40 pictures taken because of the story behind it and how the pictures background is so active..

Photo taken by: Getty Images
I really like this picture because I can personally relate to it, I lost my older brother, Michael, and a very close friend, MarkBrandon Dominguez, and seeing their casket being being loaded in to the car and driving off killed me. My eyes caught this picture because of all the color and detail. I think this picture made the top 40 pictures because of how the photographer took the picture and it really just focus' on the main part which is the lady crying near the car.

Photo taken by: Aaron Thompson

I picked this picture also because of the angel the photo was taken, and also because it doesn't have too much detail and you can just look at the main part of the photo. The composition is has is the way it shows a lot of emotions and it really just focuses on the little boy crying because his father died.

The Camera

Camera obscura- its like a dark chamber.
Electromagnetic spectrum- is the range of all possible frequencies of electromagnetic radiation.
Visible spectrum- is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible, it can be detected by the human eye.
Photographs- is an image created by light falling on a light sensitive surface.

Aperture- it is a hole or an opening through which light travels.
Shutter- is a common term used to discuss exposure time.
Exposure- is controlled by shutter speed.
Depth of field- its the distance between the nearest and fastest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.
F- stop- its the value that indicates the size of the lens aperture used during the taking of a photograph.
Focal length- the focal  lenght of an optical system is a measure of how strongly the system converges or diverges light.

Camera History && Information....

Explain the "camera obscura" effect. How is it achieved?
- The camera obscura is pretty much a dark room or box with one tiny whole for light to focus and on the outside a picture is presented.

What invention during the 17th Century helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera?
- When Issac Newton and Christian Huygens finally understood hot to create high quality lens.

What were the parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce?
- Film.

What do modern digital camera have in common with Niepce's camera?
- Light still passes through the lens and onto the film.

What do digital camera use to capture an image?
- Electronic sensor called CCD.

What is the difference between the Auto Mode and the Program Mode?
- Auto mode will control the flash and exposure and the Program Mode will allow you to control it yourself.

What is the Portrait mode used for? How does it work?
- It's used to blur out the background so you can see exactly what the picture is.

What is the Sports mode used for? (not just sports) How does it work?
- Sports mode is used to freeze motion, the camera will use the fastest shutter speed available.

Why should you do a half press on the trigger button?
-Faster camera response time, and more control over focus and better composition.

What does this symbol mean and how do you use it?
- This symbol means there's no flash or that the flash is disabled.

What does this symbol mean and how does it work?
- This symbol means auto- flash is enable by default and will automatically be used if the camera thinks it needs more light.

What happens to your photo it there is too much light?
- The photo will be washed out by the light.

What happens to your photo is there isn't enough light?
- The photo will be too dark to see.

What is a "stop?"
- A relative change in the brightness of light.

How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are two suns instead of one?
- The Earth would be one stop brighter with two suns instead of one

How many stops brighter is the new planet is there are four suns instead of two?
- The Earth would be two stops brighter with four stops instead of two.

What affect does a longer shutter speed have?
- The longer the shutter speed, the more light.

What affect does a shorter shutter speed have?
- The shorter the shutter speed, the less light.

What does a aperture control?
- The aperture is like a pupil, you can control the aperture by setting the "Aperture Opening", also known as an F-Stop.

When adjusting the aperture, how can you increase the amount of light?
- Going to larger openings.

Best & Worst Pictures...

I liked this certain picture because she's smiling and because of the angle. The background is plain, but the way I took the picture it looks like it's going into a distance. Another reason is because it show both people; the one being interviewed and the model.
I dislike this picture because of the angle and because the person interviewing the model was talking so it distracts the picture to her. The angle would have been better if it was a birds eye view. It's not a bad picture, but it's not the best.
