Front Pages of the World

MA_PL.jpgMy favorite newspaper front page was in Boston, Massachusetts because it's a current event and the face they have suspects for the bombing that happened. My favorite headline on this front page is Photos of suspects evoke painful memories" because its saying that since they've found suspects that it's bringing emotions to those who were at the Marathon at timing of the bombing. There are two different stories on the front page. The things I notice that all newspaper front pages have is they have the main story in big bold letters, and they have a enlarged picture to go with the main story, also they have two or three little stories on the bottom or side of the main story to catch attention to the audience. The differences I see is that not all newspaper front pages are layer out the same, and of course not all have the same font page story.

My Favorite was The Finalist
Sept. 2011: "The Fashion Issue"
(Photograph by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott)
For W's biggest fashion issue of the year, the magazine celebrated the ways women today transform themselves by showcasing actress Kristen Stewart as readers had never seen her before. Photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot transformed the 21-year-old cover model from the Twilight teenager that audiences know best into the glamorous, grown-up vixen she's becoming.

Magazine Part II

1) Earlier Magazine Covers
They were like books with a title and a little picture. There wasn't really big words to draw you in and little description. The book design lasted from 1700s to the 1800s. Instead, it symbolized what the magazine itself was about. Some just didn't have a cover and started it on the front page. Then they started using cover lines.

2) The Post Cover
1890s through the 1960s something that was really popular was just putting a big picture on there. Most of the big pictures that were on the magazine sometimes didn't even relate to what was in the magazine.  They just wanted to make a 'good mood'. The covers were just artsy.

3) Pictures Married to Type
It was usually a full body pose that had an unusual posture. Cover lines all around the picture not covering it up, but just around it to wear you see both the picture and the words. There are primary and secondary cover lines. A lot of it appeared in color now.

4) In the Forest of Words
Cover lines were important as cover art. Some of the cover lines were bigger then the magazine title itself. You have to have a good cover and good cover lines because sometimes its not enough to have us one.

Choice Sheet

The next class I'm most interested in is Yearbook and Commercial Application. I really want to do Yearbook because I would like to create a page for the yearbook the way I want to. I like the fact that I would be able to create a layout anyway I want. I also like Commercial Application because I'd be able to take as many pictures as I like and I would be able to have my own camera.
